How Chelsea Arrest Records Work
Chelsea counted 40,787 residents in the April 1, 2020 Census. Its police department builds the municipal arrest report. It also posts weekly Arrest Logs pulled from the Records Management System. The logs cover police arrests made in the city, nothing more. They cannot confirm ongoing jail placement. Nor do they name the SCSD custody facility, if any, that took the person in. Custody questions belong to the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department instead. Nashua Street Jail holds pretrial male detainees. The House of Correction serves other pretrial and sentenced county populations. A Chelsea arrest record alone cannot show that anyone entered either building. Release, summons, bail, and court transfer are all on the table after a bust.
Chelsea Busted Weekly Logs
The department's Crime Statistic Logs page keeps two kinds of documents apart. One is monthly Uniform Crime Reporting tables. The other is Arrest Logs that run Monday through Sunday. A sample week ending March 30, 2025 spans March 24 to March 30. Each entry lists an arrest ID, the location or address, the date and time, a name, an age, and the charges. There is no routine booking-photo field.
Privacy rules show up in the entries too. In the sample, a protected youth's name is replaced with "JUVENILE OFFENDER." An address is suppressed as well. Massachusetts law requires separate, nonpublic handling for arrests of anyone under 18 and for certain sensitive offenses. Respect those limits. Never guess an identity from details the official record leaves out. The official Chelsea log archive shows the weekly document structure.
This archive comes from city police, not the county. A visible date range and a weekly format do not turn it into a live Suffolk County roster.
Where Chelsea Busted Mugshots Appear
Start with the official sources. City, county, and court records answer different questions. Each should be checked before news stories or commercial mugshot sites. None of the Chelsea sources here offered a routine, official gallery of booking photos.
| Channel | Photo? | Use and limit |
|---|---|---|
| CPD weekly Arrest Logs | No routine photo | Official city arrests for a Monday-Sunday period |
| SCSD Jail/HOC Records | No public web policy found | Official current county custody by phone |
| MassCourts | No | Official docket and disposition search |
| Chelsea Record Police Briefs | News images may appear | Unofficial, sporadic local reporting |
| Suffolk DA | Press or case images may appear | Official prosecution and court updates |
| Mugshots.com Suffolk | Archived images may appear | Unofficial older archive, not current custody |
No verified local section for Chelsea turned up on BustedNewspaper, Arrests.org, or Mugshots.zone. RecentlyBooked's Massachusetts page listed no county results either. The one confirmed Suffolk County commercial archive skews toward older years. Old photos say nothing about where a person is now.
Busted in Chelsea: Lookup Steps
Start with the week the event happened. Chelsea’s archive works off documents, so a date gets you further than hunting for a name search.
- Open CPD’s Arrest Logs and choose the Monday-Sunday file covering the incident date. Note the arrest ID, date, location, and listed charge.
- Call SCSD Jail Records at 617-635-1100 ext. 3005 and HOC Records at 617-635-1000 ext. 2017 for current county custody.
- Ask Chelsea Records for the city report through its in-person, telephone, mail, or email channel. Request a photograph explicitly if one is sought.
- Send county intake or booking-photo requests to the SCSD Records Access Officer, since CPD and SCSD maintain different records.
- Use MassCourts and the official courthouse locator to find the docket and final disposition. Do not assume the court or docket solely from the police PDF.
Looking for Chelsea booking photos? Start at the Suffolk County busted mugshots hub. It pulls together the county custody fallback, MADOC VINE, and federal locators in one place. One caution applies here. Massachusetts VINE tracks state prisoners only, so it will not surface a Chelsea or SCSD booking search.
Chelsea Police Arrest Requests
Chelsea Records accepts requests in person, by telephone, by mail, and by email. The department lists 617-466-4801 and 617-466-4802, with records@chelseama.gov for Records. Chief Keith Houghton is listed as the Records Access Officer at Recordsofficer@chelseama.gov.
Published desk hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. The reviewed page did not promise a fixed response time or list a photo-specific fee. Ask for an estimate if copying or search charges may apply.
The Chelsea Records Department page shows the official contact routes.
A county booking record goes instead to SCSD’s RAO, Patty Sullivan, at 200 Nashua Street, Boston, MA 02114, psullivan@scsdma.org, or 617-635-1100 ext. 6373.

Chelsea Arrests Versus UCR
The city document center places weekly Arrest Logs near separate UCR crime-statistics files. They should not be merged. An arrest log lists recorded arrests during a set week. A UCR report summarizes reported crime categories under a statistical system. A rise or fall in reported crime is not the same as a count of bookings, people, or jail admissions.
| Record | Window | What it can show |
|---|---|---|
| Chelsea Arrest Log | Monday-Sunday | Arrest ID, date/time, location, person data where public, and charges |
| Chelsea UCR report | Monthly | Crime-statistics categories, not a booking list |
| SCSD custody check | Dated phone inquiry | Whether the person is currently in the Jail or HOC system |
| MassCourts docket | Case timeline | Arraignment and later court events |
No source supports a claim that Chelsea or SCSD posts a mugshot on a set schedule. The weekly police publication clock, county intake process, court calendar, and release timing are independent. Label the result “Chelsea police arrest” until another official source confirms a later state.
Note: Weekly log totals, UCR totals, and SCSD admissions measure different events and must never be presented as interchangeable counts.
Chelsea Busted News Coverage
For Chelsea news, start with the Police Briefs archive at the Chelsea Record. It is the most local option. Posts there appear weekly or on and off, so you get dated stories rather than a steady stream of booking photos. A story might pull from police paperwork or court filings. Stick to what the dated article itself claims about custody. Photos in regional coverage could be scene shots, reporter images, or agency handouts. Universal Hub and Boston 25 sometimes cover Chelsea and nearby Suffolk events. NBC Boston, WHDH, WCVB, Boston.com, and WBUR round out the regional picture. Treat an image as a mugshot only if the source itself labels it that way.
Official word on charges, pleas, and sentences comes from the Suffolk DA. Keep three things attached whenever you read a story. One is the date it ran. Another is the date of the event. The third is the status it states. A person described as arrested is not detained. Someone convicted is not merely accused. The Suffolk County Arrest News page puts these outlets side by side. It also shows why a sheriff custody call or a court search still beats any news story for a firm answer.
Reading Chelsea Busted Log Fields
Chelsea publishes its log by week. The file name and the dates it covers are part of the record itself. One example file, labeled Week Ending 3-30-25, covered Monday, March 24 through Sunday, March 30. An arrest near a week boundary might force you to open two files. Within a listing, the arrest ID, the date and time, and the location give you the strongest handles for a records request or a docket search.
Expect gaps. There is no routine booking-photo column, no county booking number, no release date, and no SCSD custody unit noted. Ages and charge wording may show up. The log also uses a JUVENILE OFFENDER substitute and suppresses some addresses. That tells you a blank or a swap can reflect a publication limit rather than missing data. Do not try to fill in anything CPD held back. For dated custody status, call SCSD. For the outcome, use the court record. A copied page that sits around too long answers neither question well.
Chelsea Busted Custody Routes
The weekly log never names a county facility. Let SCSD's own descriptions guide you instead. Nashua Street Jail holds pretrial male detainees. The House of Correction takes other pretrial detainees plus sentenced county inmates. That split is general, though, and does not tell you where any one person actually went. When the facility is unknown, call the Records division at both places with a full name and the event date.
Want an older intake record or a specific photo? Put the request in writing to the SCSD Records Access Officer. Name Chelsea Police as the arresting agency and include the arrest ID, date, and location. No SCSD page promises an online result, a set photo fee, or any posting schedule. Ask directly.
Custody can also leave the county system. A state-prison sentence moves to MADOC's VINE service. Federal custody belongs in the federal locator. Release ends detention, but the police report and court docket still stand. Date and status labels matter with each source.
Chelsea Busted Source Follow-Up
Chelsea District Court handles many city matters. Still, the weekly CPD PDF does not hand you a docket number or even confirm a court assignment. Verify the courthouse with the state locator first. Then work the arrest ID, name, date, and location to narrow things down. If an online search needs a docket number or trips over a common name, the clerk's counter is the fallback.
The Suffolk DA archive reports selected Chelsea charges, arraignments, pleas, trials, and sentences. It is an official prosecution source, but it is not a full weekly feed. The Chelsea Record adds community police briefs now and then. Its story date plus stated custody status should travel with any fact you take from it. Neither outlet turns a news photo into a booking photo.
When you request the city file, say exactly what you want. That means arrest report, incident report, or photograph. CPD accepts email, phone, mail, and in-person requests. Send a separate request to SCSD for the county-created intake record, identifying the same event. No page lists a photo fee or a guaranteed response date, so ask for an estimate up front.
